Gwagwalada - Peace has now been restored between the Gwaris and the
Fulanis in Gwako 1 village, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal
Capital Territory (FCT).
The Secretary, Area Council Service
Secretariat of the FCTA, Alhaji Alhassan Gwagwa, made this known after a
visit to the area in Gwako village on Friday.
Gwagwa said he
visited the community to assess the success of peace and the
reconciliation efforts carried out after the clash.
The News
Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that two people were killed and many
others displaced as a result of the clash between the Fulanis and Gwaris
in Gwagwalada on Dec. 24, 2012.
He said that the committee set
up to monitor the village got a report that some people now move about
with dane guns and cutlasses.
"I warned both parties to desist
from going to farm or moving about with dangerous weapons, especially
guns or cutlasses,” he said.
Gwagwa said that the Gwari’s had
complained that the Fulani’s were vacating the village in fear of being
attacked even after the reconciliation.
On the issue of
compensation promised to the affected victims, the secretary said that
he would forward their complaint of non-compensation to the committee in
charge of it.
He called on the leaders of both parties to
caution their youths to desist from all immoral behaviour that could
ignite further crises.
The Vice Chairman of the Fulani’s also
known as Miyatti Allah, Mr Suleman Abubakar, alleged that the Gwari’s
move about with weapons.
Abubakar said they have been vacating
the village even before the crises, adding their fate concerning land
for farming and grazing was unknown to them.
"We have been
vacating before the crises, although the ministerial instruction has
given some of us courage to remain in FCT.
"We don’t know our
fate as far as land for farming and grazing are concerned but we will
return during rainy season,” he said.
The Garukwa of Gwako, Mr
Salisu Adamu, complained that their farms were tampered with and were
destroyed, especially their yams.
He advised that since they have
been living together for long, it should continue, adding that they
were willing to deal with anyone caught causing problem in the village.
