Nigeria continues to count its losses as a result of the increased
operation of terrorist groups in the country.
A report by the UK Daily Star revealed on Sunday that Arsenal FC had to
scrap its earlier plans to play a friendly match in Nigeria this July
over fears of terrorism in Nigeria where Boko Haram and its brother
terror-group, Ansaru have killed over 3,000 people since they declared
war against the state in 2009.
Arsenal had earlier cancelled a trip scheduled for last year. When they
cancelled that trip, the Arsenal marketing director, Angus Kinnear said:
“We are making plans for a visit next summer.”
However the summer visit which was to see the Arsenal team take on the
Nigerian national team in a friendly game has now been cancelled because
of fear of the terrorist sects.
Everything seemed to have been set for the July game. The Arsene Wenger
coached side had already sent star players like Tomas Rosisky, Bacary
Sagna, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski to help publicise the
encounter.
