The bank also added that the card is accepted at all VISA acceptance points, on over one million Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), 30 million Point of Sale (PoS)/merchant terminals in over 179 countries across the world. UBA further described the card as “one of the most prestigious prepaid cards in the world. It gives user full control over personal finances as it is not linked to any bank account and therefore attracts no minimum balance.” Commenting on the new product, Head, e-Banking, UBA, Dr. Adeyinka Adedeji said the UBA prepaid card helps customers control spending and be in control of their funds making it ideal for budgeting and travel. “It is also ideal for students and even employees or casual workers who may not have a Bank Account,” he said. Other key benefits of the card, according to him, include “efficiently allowing customers that cannot get approval for a current account to have access to financial services and deepen financial inclusion; while banked customers can still use the prepaid card to effectively manage their spend to what they have loaded on the Card. “In addition, they can limit their account exposure by using prepaid card online or at locations where they do not trust safety of their information. Travelers can load Naira and be able to spend as much as $40,000 equivalent per annum on the secure card which is protected with the CHIP and PIN technology,” Adedeji said.

US HIV baby 'cured' by early drug treatment

HIV The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks the immune system
Continue reading the main story

A baby girl in the US born with HIV appears to have been cured after very early treatment with standard drug therapy, researchers say.
The Mississippi child is now two-and-a-half years old and has been off medication for about a year with no signs of infection.
More testing needs to be done to see if the treatment would have the same effect on other children.
But the results could possibly lead to a cure for children with HIV.
If the child stays healthy it would be only the world's second reported cure.
Dr Deborah Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, presented the findings at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Atlanta.
"This is a proof of concept that HIV can be potentially curable in infants," she said.
In 2007, Timothy Ray Brown became the first person in the world believed to have recovered from HIV.
His infection was eradicated through an elaborate treatment for leukaemia that involved the destruction of his immune system and a stem cell transplant from a donor with a rare genetic mutation that resists HIV infection.
In contrast, the case of the Mississippi baby involved a cocktail of widely available drugs already used to treat HIV infection in infants.
Correspondents say it suggests the treatment wiped out HIV before it could form hideouts in the body that usually re-infect anyone who stops medication.
