The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has advised governments and private sector operators to initiate policies that will lead to job creation.
Head of ACCA Nigeria, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ademola, said this while speaking to journalists at a recent job fair organised by the association in Lagos.
Ademola bemoaned the high unemployment rate in the country, saying that if not addressed,  it would continue to affect the growth of the economy.
She added: “We have noticed a number of issues that are going in this country that are not healthy. There is high unemployment rate, which is not good.”
According to the ACCA boss, the job fair was part of the professional body’s contribution to prepare undergraduate for employment opportunities in the financial sector.
“We are not saying what we are doing today will reduce unemployment entirely, but we think it will contribute to the reduction of high unemployment rate directly.
One of the key things we noticed is that when people go to school, they finish and then what?  What we want to do for them is that while they will not get employed today, they will have an understanding of what a potential employer wants from them. This is to give them the opportunity to meet with the employers,” she  said.

The event which was organised in collaboration with some commercial banks and corporate organisations, Ademola said, would be extended to Abuja.
“ACCA as organisation, part of our values are opportunity and accountability. For us, it is about giving people the opportunity. If you have a job, you tend to be more professionally inclined, if you are more professionally inclined, you tend to go for a professional qualification, which is the ACCA or any other qualification,” she said.
