The Anambra State Public Officers and Elders Forum (ASPOF) has called on Nigerians and Africans to immortalise the late Prof. Chinua Achebe by fighting for the total liberation of the country and continent from all forms of misrule and alienation.

The body made up of eminent citizens with the former chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) Chief Simeon Okeke as chairman noted that although Achebe is no more, but he never really died.

A statement from the group signed by Chief Okeke and the Secretary, Mr. Ralph Oraeluno lamented that “things have really fallen apart as the centre could no longer hold. We could not again find the one to whom “proverbs are the oil with which words are eaten.”
They described Achebe as an outstanding son of Africa who stood up to make the continent count in the realm of intellectual development and emancipation at a time a gap existed and had none to muster the courage to create a future for Africa.
The ASPOF lamented the exit of literary giant, Prof. Achebe.

Achebe’s passion for core values and all the virtues that represent the hallmark of the African propelled him to X-ray the fundamental problems with Nigeria, which he believes was based on bad leadership, and compounded by tribalism, nepotism, ethnicism and charade, thus, Nigeria prospers in retrogression. His cry for Nigeria was the bone of contention which made him to reject, severally, the award of national honours hitting back at the government that he cannot receive such awards from a country which empowered renegades to turn his home state, Anambra into a fiefdom and amphitheatre of doom and mayhem.
The body lamented that the situation of things in the nation, it would be difficult to fill the gap the literary icon has left
