Mikel Obi set to wed Delta Soap beauty queen, Sandra Okagbue?

"The two love birds who have been dating for almost 3 years now have decided to seal the relationship. Their introduction comes up next Sunday March 31 at Sandra's family home in Onitsha. This development will definitely not come as a surprise to most of their friends. This is because their romance has grown stronger by the day that Sandra has been a live-in-lover of the Chelsea midfielder in his UK home.

They met about three years ago during one of Mikel's visit to Nigeria and they've been together ever since. According to family sources, Mikel is so in love with Sandra that he has invested millions to settle her family, most especially the family's residence located at Ajao Estate, which had Mikel's financial blessing

Sandra Okagbue won Miss Delta Soap beauty pageant in 2010 and she's the daughter of the late Obi of Onitsha, Obi Ofala Okagbue.

Ijaw leader Chief Edwin Clark remarries at 86, to Dr Bisola Sodipo

Ijaw Leader and former Information Minister, Chief Edwin Clark remarried last week Sunday March 17th at the age of 86. Today is actually is 86th birthday. Happy birthday, sir! Back to the story. Chief Clark married well known medical doctor, Dr Abisola Sodipe Akindeko. The wedding ceremony took place at his home in Apapa and another one at the bride's home at Okupe Estate in Maryland.

Dr Abisola Akindeko is the former best friend of Iyabo Obasanjo who lost two of her children in an assassination attempt on Iyabo Obasanjo's life. Dr Abisola's children were riding in Iyabo's car when it was attacked by hired assassins in 2003. The gunmen, thinking Iyabo was in the car, shot into the car killing the two children instantly. Iyabo and Dr Abisola had been riding in the doctors car, while the children rode in Iyabo's car. It was a huge story back then. Glad to know she's doing well now!

Wizkid to return to former music label, EME

If everything goes according to plan, Wizkid will soon be returning to his former music label, EME Music Group, this is according to a reliable industry source. The source revealed to me exclusively that Wizkid and EME bosses have been going back and forth for the last couple of weeks through their lawyers trying to agree on new terms of them working together again.

"Wizkid leaving EME was just his way of pushing the bosses at the label to take him seriously and increase his earning percentage. When he joined EME he wasn't a star but then he became a mega star and was making a lot of money for the label and they still didn't increase his earning percentage so he took a walk. Now they are working on a new contract that will favour Wizkid." The source said

I hear in the new contract being drafted, EME will not take a dime from Wizkid's international deals. When they start working together again, remember you read it here first! :-)

Kidnapped NTA Akure female journalist freed

Olubunmi Oke, the female journalist with NTA Akure who was kidnapped on Thursday 21 as she returned home from work, has been released. Bunmi regained her freedom today Sunday March 24th.

“I confirm that she has been released. I spoke with her early this morning shortly after she was set free by her abductors. She was set free and abandoned in a bush near Ondo town, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) from Akure from where she boarded a lorry home. She is hale and hearty and happy to be back home." Rotimi Obamuwagun, vice president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, told AFP.

Her abductors had asked for N8million but is is unclear if any ransom was paid before she was freed

Osun State senior secondary school students get computer tablets

Osun State government last week commenced the distribution of the Computer Tablets of Learning (Opon Imo) to the students of government-owned secondary schools in the state.

The distribution of the tablets started at the Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo on Monday with 385 students in the Senior Secondary School 2 (SSS2), each receiving the technological device.The project, an initiative of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, specially designed for the students of public secondary schools in the state to improve their performance in internal and external examinations

Nigerian Govt Delegation In US Visits Achebe’s Family

A Nigerian Government delegation in the US on Saturday visited the family of the late Prof. Chinua Achebe, who died on Thursday night.

The delegation, led by Nigeria’s Ambassador to the U. S, Ade Adefuye, and Nigeria’s Consul General in New York, Habib Habu, visited the Achebes in Boston, where his wife, Christie, has relocated. Mr. Adefuye, in a telephone interview with the North America Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the delegation, during the visit, pledged support to the family during the funeral arrangement.
He said that the family also promised to inform government of the final burial arrangements for the late literary icon.
NAN learnt that the Governor of Anambra, Mr Peter Obi, would arrive in the U. S on Sunday to pay a condolence visit to the family.

This is the Sunday that begins the 'HOLY WEEK' of the Church. The feast marks Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

Palm Sunday is usually marked by the use of palm fronds(sometimes tied to the shape of a cross) together with 'Hosanna in the highest' chants by the congregation while the do a PUBLIC procession on the streets in a similar manner like 'Christ the King'.
The symbolism is captured in Zechariah 9:9 "The Coming of Zion's King – See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey". According to the Gospels, Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem, and the celebrating people there lay down their cloaks in front of him, and also lay down small branches of trees. The people sang part of Psalm 118: 25– 26 – ... Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord ...

Nigerian Comedians Lack Creativity – Basketmouth

Frontline comedian and TV host, Bright Okpocha popularly called Basketmouth, has accused many of his colleagues in the Nigerian industry of laziness and lack of creativity in their jokes.

Basketmouth who accused some of his colleagues of not devoting their time to writing new materials but keep on recycling old jokes said, “Unlike our colleagues abroad who take time to write new materials or engage writers to pen jokes for their shows, Nigerian comedians seem to focus more on the production aspect of their art at the expense of producing new materials for their shows.
While differentiating between comedy and music, he said, “This has really affected standards. Unlike in the music industry where a singer can release a track, perform the song at every show, yet fans will dance and celebrate him, comedy is not like that.
“Trust me, once you repeat a joke in more than three shows or any of your colleagues perform same, the fans will be turned off. That means for every show, a comedian needs fresh jokes,” he stressed.

Bisade Ologunde popularly called Lagbaja, has joined the star studded list of entertainers signed to telecommunications giants, Globacom, as brand ambassadors.

Though there is no official statement yet from Globacom on its deal with the Nigerian Afrobeat maestro, sources within the telecoms giant’s corporate headquarters in Lagos said Lagbaja put pen to paper on a lucrative deal worth several millions of naira.

In a swift reaction, the issue of SUV and N3 million cheque as wedding gift to popular singer Tuface Idibia and Annie Macaulay was brought to light.
The commissioner went on to defend the gesture by Governor Akpabio saying "Annie Macaulay and Tuface Idibia have created something very significant for Akwa Ibom State".
"They brought in a galaxy of the entertainment industry, music stars and so on likewise new ambassadors into the state."
He said if it is to fund destination marketing of branding then he doubts if the cost of one SUV and N3m is too much.

Me and Nollywood
Nigeria is like my second home. I think the acceptance was buoyed by the fact that I won the best supporting actress at Africa Movie Academy Awards. I came back the following year, got an award as the best actress in leading role and each time I came around, producers contacted me to take up roles in their movies and that was it.
First Nigerian movie
The first Nollywood movie I took part in was Sleepwalker, it was a joint collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria. It featured Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, and Mercy Johnson to mention but a few.

This is the first time in more than 600 years that two popes will be alive at the same time and in each others company. Usually one would have to die before the other takes over...but Pope Benedict XVI retired last month.

Pope Francis flew to Castel Gandolfo by helicopter today to visit Benedict who has been living at the papal villa since he officially retired on February 28. They prayed together in the chapel before sharing a private lunch.
