Opposition Politician Says Edo Council Poll Was Perfect
The Chairman Conference of Registered Political Parties and National Secretary of Accord party, Mr. Samson Isibor on Friday described the controversial Edo Council polls as perfect, accusing the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of trying to instigate a state of emergency.
Speaking on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Isibor stated that Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) did the right thing and carried all political parties along.
“It is the normal process of election. The only thing there is that a particular political party just wants to mislead the public or to make sure that nothing works. Particularly to rubbish the comrade governor…”
He stated that the only issue during the election was a ‘little logistics problem’ (late arrival of polling materials) which he credited to ‘human error’ adding that it was not deliberate.
Commenting on accusations leveled against the electoral body for failing to announce the results of the rescheduled elections in Esan and Uromi, Isibor replied by accusing the electorate of ‘hooliganism’ saying that the voters prevented due process from taking place.
“If you see the way they mobbed the electoral officials; they did not allow them to perform their duties.” He added that the voters mounted pressure on the electoral officers to release results when they were following ‘due process.”
He said that there was an atmosphere of peace during the rescheduled elections; except for Esan North East where there were problems of malpractice and tension.
He admitted that he may be taking sides with the Action Congress of Nigeria and praised Governor Admas Oshiomole as a ‘man of peace.’
He further accused the People’s Democratic Party of trying to ‘rubbish’ Oshiomole because he believes in the truth.
He said the PDP was trying to cause problems so that the President can declare a state of emergency in the state.
