Mrs. Adrianne Nwagwu, Head Sustainability and Responsibility of the company said at a press conference in Lagos that it had “become an annual future for us. We have this partnership and this is an ongoing relationship with the Golf Club since 1993.
“For us, sport is important though, this is not the only sport we are involved in, we are involved in football. Guinness has always been there with the Super Eagles and this is not the only social responsibility we do as a company. Guinness is involved in health, education and in all, this is part of our own plan and vision to be the most respected business in Nigeria.”
Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Capt. Olatunji Adeyemo said the tournament will start on the Monday with the Caddies Competition and Staff Competition while Tuesday would be Pro's Competition for some invited Pro's; Wednesday for ladies tournament where about 70 ladies would be playing; Thursday the Golf Club will be opened for none members to play for free; while Friday, the big boys will be playing.
Adeyemo said about 100 players are expected to play on Friday, 110 are expected to play on Saturday with some invited guests while the tournament would be rounded up with presentation of prizes and the gala night.
Adeyemo said, "Guinness has been a corporate member of the club and “has always been for us even in the provision of tractors."
Also present at the press conference were Lady Captain of Ikeja Golf Club Mrs. Omajua Oluwatusin and the Resident Pro, Jamiu Oyebanjo.
