To put an end to the incessant power cuts at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) would be migrating to dedicated power from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHNC).
Last year FAAN carried out major rehabilitation of underground electric cables which had become old and bristle after being in service for so many years.
That was what put an end to the major safety threatening incident that happened last year when runway light went off as an aircraft was on approach to land.
Now, the agency also wants to end the power outages at the airport as the agency explained in a statement signed by its General Manager, Corporate Communications, Yakubu Dati,  that the migration would be carried out at all the airports to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public, especially users of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja that there will be a brief interruption of power supply to the airport on Sunday, March 10, 2013, between 10.00am and 10.30am.
“The temporary disconnection of power supply is to enable our engineers switch over to a new and improved source of power supply to the airport, as part of the power improvement project for the airport. It is expected that the new source of power supply will drastically reduce the incidents of power outage and thereby enhance service delivery at the airport,” the statement said.
Dati said that the power improvement project, which is taking place simultaneously in major airports across the country, was designed by the Federal Government to improve electric power supply at all airports, as part of the transformation agenda in the aviation industry
